Setting the shift mechanism Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Rig pin -T10027A- t  Release tool -T30098-   Note The following are required for correct setting of the shift mechanism: l  Gearbox, clutch and clutch control in perfect condition l  Shift mechanism operates freely l  Control elements and transmission elements of the shift mechanism are in perfect condition l  Gearbox in Neutral –  Remove air filter → Engine; Rep. gr.23. Unlock catches for shift cable and selector cable as follows:

–  Slide sliding sleeves at shift cable and selector cable forwards up to the stop -arrows 1-. –  Turn the sliding sleeves in direction of -arrows 2- as far as the stop until they lock in place.   Note The cables can be moved in the catches. l  Gearbox in Neutral.

Lock the gearshift shaft as follows: –  Push down the gearbox shift lever in the direction of the arrow -1- into the selector lever gate of the 1st/2nd gear. Turn the angle lever -A- in direction of arrow -2-, until it locks. This locks the gearshift shaft and can no longer be moved. –  Make sure that the shift cable and selector cable sit stress-free in the catches. Vehicles Octavia II –  Open the ashtray.

–  Carefully lever off the cover from the centre console -arrows-. –  Pull the cover upwards over the gearshift knob. –  Guide shift lever in Neutral to the left into the selector lever gate of the 1st/2nd gear. –  Partly pull off the noise cover aside.

–  Lock shift lever with rig pin -T10027A-.   Note The illustration shows the shift lever with the noise covers removed. Vehicles Superb II

–  Lever the collar -A- upwards and out of the centre console surround using the release tool -T30098--arrows-. –  If present, remove the noise insulation. Now fix the gearshift lever as follows: –  Engage neutral position on gearshift lever.

–  Insert rig pin -T10027A- into the holes. Vehicles Yeti

–  Lever the collar -A- together with the surround -B- off the centre console -C- using the release tool -T30098--direction of arrow-. –  Pull the collar upwards over the gearshift knob. Now fix the gearshift lever as follows:

–  Insert the rig pin -T10027A-.

–  Ensure that the selector and shift cable -B- are pushed free of tension into the catches -A-. Continued for all vehicles

–  Turn sliding sleeve at shift cable and selector cable in -direction of the arrow- up to the stop. The spring pushes the sliding sleeves into the initial position.   Note The shift cable is now adjusted.

–  Turn angle lever -A- back to the initial position (in -direction of arrow-). –  Pull rig pin -T10027A- out of the gearshift mechanism. –  Install shift lever collar. –  Install air filter → Engine; Rep. gr.23.
