Setting the shift mechanism
Setting the shift mechanism
The following are required for correct setting of the shift mechanism:
t  Operating and transmission elements of the shift mechanism are in perfect condition.
t  Shift mechanism operates freely.
Gearbox, clutch and clutch control must be in perfect condition.
l  Gearbox in Neutral.
–  Carefully lever off the cover from the centre console.
–  Remove the gearshift knob with cover from the gearshift lever → Chapter.
   
–  Unscrew cover for shift housing -arrows-.
–  Measure gap between body and shift mechanism.

l  The gap -a- must be 41 mm.
If this is not the case, set gap -a- as follows:
–  Loosen the screw -arrow- of the push rod.
l  The push rod/shift mechanism joint should move freely.
–  Set gap length -a- by moving the shift mechanism.
–  Tighten the screw -arrow- of the push rod to tightening torque.

–  Loosen the screw -arrow- of the shift rod.
l  The shift rod/shift mechanism joint should move freely.
–  Align the shift lever in such a way that it is positioned vertically.
  N34-1250
l  It must point slightly to the rear (in the direction of travel), -a-.
–  Tighten the screw of the shift rod to tightening torque.
–  Install cover and gearshift knob.
Operation
–  The shift lever must be in Neutral, in the gate of 3rd/4th gear.
–  Press clutch.
–  Shift through all gears several times. Pay particular attention to proper operation of the reverse gear lock.
l  The shift lever must shift automatically from the 5th/reverse gear gate to the 3rd/4th gear gate.
l  The reverse gear must only be engaged if the shift lever in Neutral is in the 3rd/4th gear gate.
l  A direct shift through from the engaged 5th gear into the reverse gear must not be possible.
  Note
If a direct shift through is possible or if the 5th gear or the reverse gear cannot be engaged, the reverse gear lock must be checked and if necessary replaced → Chapter.
