Adjusting the secondary shaft and crown wheel
  Note
t  The lifetime and smooth running of the final drive depend on careful adjustment of the secondary shaft and crown wheel. Already during manufacture, the secondary shaft and crown wheel are inspected for good positioning of the contact pattern and sound dempening in both running directions. The maximum smoothness setting is determined by axial adjustment of the secondary shaft, by which the crown wheel is lifted out of its clearance-free engagement in such a way that the interlocking clearance is brought within the recommended tolerance.
t  The purpose of the adjustments is to restore the setting of smoothest running, as established by the testing machine at production.
t  Each drive train - secondary shaft and crown wheel - must only be replaced together.
t  Follow the general repair instructions for bearings and shims.
t  If the drive chain is replaced or metal swarf is found in the engine oil, then the double angular ball bearing on the secondary shaft must always be replaced.
