Removing and installing the differential > < Secondary shaft (output shaft)

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Drift -MP3-403 (VW 295)-
t  Mandrel -2062-
t  Extractor -T10037-
t  Catch pan
t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1 -
Removing
l  The gearbox is installed.
–  Unscrew the left front wheel.
–  Remove the sound dampening system → Body Work; Rep. Gr.50.
   
–  Remove noise insulation from left wheel house -arrows-.

–  Remove shield/left drive shaft -arrows-. The third screw is not visible in the figure.
–  Remove left drive shaft -1- from flange shaft and tie up as far as possible to the front; do not damage the surface protection.
–  Place catch pan underneath.

–  Remove left flange shaft, to do so tighten the extractor -T10037- at the cover for differential -arrow-.

–  Lever out the gasket ring of the flange shaft.
Install
  S39-0273
–  Always replace circlip for flange shaft → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts.
–  Clamp the flange shaft in a vice with protective jaws. Push out the old circlip from the flange shaft groove with the new circlip -A-.
  S39-0277
–  Lightly oil new gasket ring at outer surface.
–  Insert new gasket ring for 5.5 mm flange shaft under cover surface, do not tilt gasket ring during this process.
–  Fill half the space between the sealing lips and dust lips with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
–  Insert flange shaft with drift -MP3-403 (VW 295)-.
Further installation occurs in reverse order, while paying attention to the following:
–  Attach the left drive shaft to the flange shaft → Chassis; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Inspect gear oil level in manual gearbox and top up with oil if necessary → Chapter.
–  Install the noise insulation → Body Work; Rep. Gr.50.
–  Install the left front wheel.
