  Note
If considerable quantities of metal swarf or abrasion is found when carrying out engine repairs, this can be subject to damage to the crankshaft and conrod bearings. In order to avoid consequential damage, after the repair perform the following tasks:
–  Carefully clean the oil galleries.
–  Replace oil spray jets.
–  Replace oil cooler.
–  Replace oil filter.
t  Secure the engine with engine mount -MP 1-202- on the assembly stand -MP 9-101- before performing assembly work.
1 - 50 Nm + torque a further 1/4 turn (90°)
q   replace
2 - Bearing caps
q   do not mix up bearing cap (mark)
q   bearing cap 3 with recesses for thrust washers
q   retaining lugs of the bearing shells of the cylinder block/bearing cap must be on top of one another
3 - Crankshaft
q   Axial play when new: 0.07...00,24 mm
   Wear limit: 0,26 mm
q   Crankshaft bearing pins: Ø 54,00 mm
q   Conrod bearing pin: Ø 47,80 mm
q   on vehicles with automatic gearbox with needle bearing
q   Pull out the needle bearing of the crankshaft and drive it in → Chapter
4 - Sealing flange on the gearbox side
q   Only replace sealing flange complete with gasket ring and rotor
q   replace → Chapter
5 - 10 Nm
q   replace
6 - Thrust washers
q   for bearing cap 3
q   pay attention to locating element
7 - Bearing shell
q   in cylinder block
8 - Sprocket
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   for oil pump drive and timing chain
q   Clamping surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
9 - Bearing shell
q   in bearing cap
q   do not mix up used bearing shells (mark)
