q   replace
q   Oil thread and contact surface
2 - Conrod bearing cap
q   Check fitting position
q   as a result of the conrods separated in the cracking process, the cover fits only in one position and only to the relevant conrod
q   mark matching cylinder -A-
q   Fitting position: Markings -B- point towards the belt pulley side
3 - Bearing shells
q   pay attention to correct installation position → Fig.
q   do not mix up used bearing shells
q   Axial play when new: 0,10…0,35 mm
   Wear limit: 0.4 mm
4 - Pressure relief valve, 27 Nm
q   Opening pressure: 0.16…0.19 MPa (1.6...1.9 bar) overpressure
5 - Oil injection nozzle
q   for piston cooling
6 - Circlip
7 - Piston pin
q   if stiff, heat piston to 60°C
q   use drift -VW 222 A- for removing and installing
8 - Piston
q   mark installation position and matching cylinder
q   arrow on the piston crown faces towards the belt pulley side
q   use piston ring tensioning strap for installing
q   check → Fig.
q   inspect cylinder bore → Fig.
q   Piston Ø: 82.465 mm (nominal dimension)
q   Cylinder Ø: 82.51 mm (nominal dimension)
9 - Compression rings
q   Offset joint 120°
q   use piston ring pliers for removing and installing
q   marking „TOP“ must face to the top towards piston crown
q   Inspect gap clearance → Fig.
q   Inspect end clearance → Fig.
10 - Oil scraper ring
q   2 part
q   Install joint with 120° offset to the neighboring compression ring
q   Inspect gap clearance → Fig.
q   End clearance cannot be measured
11 - Conrod
q   with a split bearing cap
q   replace as a set only
q   mark matching cylinder -A-
q   Fitting position: Markings -B- point towards the belt pulley side
q   separate new conrod → Chapter

Bearing shell installation position
Bearing shell -1- with oil drilling -arrow- for conrod.
