c. Check to see that there is no significant play in the radial direction of the inboard joint.
d. Check the boot for damage.

2. Remove the inboard joint boot clamps by performing the following.

a. Using a screwdriver, remove the two inboard joint boot clamps.
b. Slide the inboard joint boot toward the outboard joint.

3. Remove the inboard joint tulip by performing the following.

a. Place matchmarks on the inboard joint and drive shaft.
b. Remove the inboard joint tulip from the drive shaft.

4. Remove the tripod from the drive shaft after doing the following.

a. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.
b. Place matchmarks on the shaft and tripod.

c. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the tripod. 

NOTE: Do not tap the roller. 

5. Remove the inboard and outboard joint boots by performing the following.

a.

Remove the inboard joint boot and two clamps from the drive shaft.
b. Using a side cutter, cut the two outboard boot clamps.
c. Remove the outboard joint boot from the drive shaft.

NOTE: Do not disassemble the outboard joint.

6. Using a screwdriver, remove the dust cover from the inboard joint tulip.
7. Using a screwdriver and hammer, remove the dust seal from the drive shaft.

INSTALLATION

Install in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

fill the differential with differential oil
