Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

1.

Connect terminals of vacuum switching valve to battery terminals.

2.

Blow into either pipe and if air does not come out of other pipe, replace valve.

3.

Disconnect positive battery cable.

4.

Blow air into either pipe and if air comes out of other pipe, replace valve.

5.

Disconnect battery terminals from valve terminals.

6.

Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between vacuum switching valve positive terminal and valve body.

7.

If there is continuity, replace valve.

8.

Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between vacuum switching valve positive terminal and other terminals.

9.

If resistance is not between 51 and 57 ohms (38---44 ohms on 22R, 3A-C, 3E, 4A-C & 4A-LC) at 68°F, replace valve.
