Axle Shaft Service

Fig. 13  Assembling Inner Race Into Cage.

1.

Place axle shaft in vise, then separate outer shaft from axle shaft using drift.

2.

Remove six ball bearings by rotating inner cage until bearings can be removed.

3.

Remove cage and inner race from outer shaft. Remove inner race from cage.

4.

Inspect all parts for damage or wear, then assemble inner race into cage as shown in 

Fig. 11.

5.

Assemble cage and inner race onto outer shaft by positioning two large openings of cage against protruded parts of outer shaft.

6.

Assemble inner race and cage, then install ball bearings. Lubricate outer shaft cavity with suitable grease.

7.

Install new snap ring onto inner shaft then assemble inner and outer shafts.
