Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Axle Shaft Assembly, Constant Velocity Type
Precautionary Note
The axle hub bearing could be damaged if it is subjected to vehicle weight, as when moving the vehicle with the driveshaft removed. If it is
absolutely necessary to move the vehicle with the driveshaft removed, support axle hub bearing using tool 09608-16041 or equivalent.
Removal

1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel.
2.
Remove cotter pin and lock cap, then apply brakes and remove locknut.
3.
Loosen two lower ball joint bolts. Do not remove.
4.
Disconnect rod from steering knuckle, then remove cotter pin and nut.
5.
Using ball joint puller tool No. 09628-10011, disconnect tie rod from steering knuckle.
6.
Disconnect driveshaft from differential, Fig. 12.
7.
Disconnect steering knuckle from lower ball joint, then pull steering knuckle outward and remove driveshaft from axle hub.
8.
Ensure not to damage oil seal, driveshaft boots and speed sensor, if equipped.
