1.

Disassemble inboard joint outer race as follows:

a. Remove boot clamps. Ensure not to damage boot.
b. Remove boot from inboard joint outer race.
c. Place alignment marks on inboard joint outer race and shaft. Do not use a punch to place alignment marks.
d. Remove inboard joint outer race.

2.

Remove inboard joint as follows:

a. Clamp driveshaft in a suitable vise.
b. Using a snap ring expander, remove snap ring.
d. Place alignment marks on inboard joint and shaft.
e. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove inboard joint. Do not tap roller.
f. Remove inboard joint boot and boot clamps.

3.

Remove outboard joint boot as follows:

a. Remove boot clamps. Ensure not to damage boot.
b. Remove boot from outboard joint outer race.
c. Remove boot and boot clamps.

Assembly

1.

Temporarily install boots and boot clamps. Before installing boot, wrap tape around the shaft splines to prevent damaging boot.

2.

Install outboard joint boot, four new clamps and inboard joint boot.

3.

Install boot to outboard joint as follows:

a. Before assembling the boots, pack in suitable grease.
b. Keep grease off joint connection groove of boot.
c. Pack in grease all over ball contact surface inside joint.
d. Install boot clamps to outboard joint boot. Ensure boot in on shaft groove and outboard joint groove.
e. Install boot without twisting it.
f. Install clamps to outboard joint boot.
g. Bend back band and lock boot into place. Ensure not to damage boot.

4.

Install inboard joint as follows:

a. Align marks placed during disassembly.
b. Using a brass bar and hammer, install inboard joint. Do not tap roller.
c. Using a snap ring expander, install new snap ring.

5.

Install inboard joint outer race as follows:

a. Before assembling pack 7.6-7.9 ounces of grease supplied with boot kit into boot assembly.
b. Keep grease off joint connection groove of boot.
c. Pack in grease all over roller contact surface inside joint.
d. Align marks on outer race and shaft, then install outer race.

6.

Install inboard joint boot as follows:

a. Install boot to inboard joint. Ensure boot in on shaft groove and inboard joint outer race groove.
b. Install boot without twisting it.
c. Set driveshaft length. Driveshaft length should be 19.41-19.81 inches.
d. Bend back band and lock boot into place. Ensure not to damage boot.

Installation

1.

Install front driveshaft. Ensure not to damage oil seal, driveshaft boots and speed sensor if equipped.

2.

Temporarily install two attaching bolts, then connect steering knuckle to lower ball joint.

3.

Connect front driveshaft to differential side gear shaft. Torque attaching bolts to 51 ft. lbs.

4.

Connect tie rod end to steering knuckle, then install new cotter pin. Torque attaching nut 36 ft. lbs.

5.

Torque bolts on lower ball joint to 94 ft. lbs.

6.

While applying brakes, install driveshaft locknut. Torque locknut to 137 ft. lbs and install new cotter pin.

7.

Install front wheel and lower vehicle.
