Valve Clearance: Adjustments
With the engine cold, adjust valve lash using the following method:
1. Adjust valve clearance to 0.0 in.

Loosen the lock nut and unscrew the adjusting screw until clearance can be felt between the valve and the rocker.

Lightly tighten the adjusting screw until sudden resistance is felt.
2. Screw in the adjusting screw one extra rotation.
3. Hold the adjusting screw in position and tighten the locknut.
With No. 1 piston at TDC on compression stroke, adjust the following valves indicated in Fig. 80 to specification:
Cyl. No.1 Exhaust
Cyl. No.1 Intake
Cyl. No.2 Intake
Cyl. No.3 Exhaust

Turn crankshaft in normal direction of rotation one full revolution (360°) and adjust the following valves indicated in Fig. 81 to specification:
Cyl. No.2 Exhaust
Cyl. No.3 Intake
Cyl. No.4 Intake
Cyl. No.4 Exhaust
