ASSEMBLY

1. Temporarily install new inboard and outboard boots and new boot clamps.

NOTE: Before installing the boot, wrap vinyl tape around the spline of the shaft to prevent damaging the boot.

2. Assemble tripod, as follows:

a. Place the beveled side of the tripod axial spline toward the outboard joint.
b. Align the matchmarks placed before disassembly.

c. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap the tripod onto the drive shaft.
d. Using a snap ring expander, install a new snap ring.

3. Assemble boot to outboard joint.
4. Assemble inboard joint to inboard joint tulip, as follows:

a. Pack in grease to the inboard tulip and boot in the boot kit.
b. Align the matchmarks placed before disassembly.
c. Install the inboard tulip to the drive shaft.
d. Temporarily install the boot to the inboard tulip.

5. Assemble new boot clamps to both boots, as follows:

a. Make sure the two boots are on the shaft groove.

b. Make sure that the two boots are not stretched or contracted when the drive shaft is at the standard length.

Standard length: 481.2 - 491.2 mm (18.945 - 19.339 inch).

c. Using a screwdriver, bend the band and lock.
