1.
Remove brake drum or rotor and check bearing axial play. Play should not exceed .002 inch.

On models w/drum brakes, disconnect brake line from wheel cylinder, Fig. 6.

Remove 4 bolts holding axle hub to axle carrier and remove axle hub and rear brake assembly.

Remove O-ring.
5.
Place hub in suitable vise. Using hammer and chisel, loosen stake part of nut and remove nut.

Using special tool 09550-20014, push axle shaft off axle hub.
7.
Remove inside portion of bearing inner race.
8.
Using special service tool 09950-20014, pull outside portion of bearing inner race from axle shaft.
9.
Remove oil seal.

To replace wheel bearing, place old inner race (outside) on bearing, then using special service tools 09228-22020 and 09636-20010, press out
bearing.
11.
Apply MP grease around bearing outer race and using special service tool 09316-60010 press new bearing into axle hub.
12.
Using special service tool 09310-35010, or equivalent, drive new oil seal into axle hub.
13.
Apply MP grease to oil seal lip.
14.
Place inside portion of bearing inner race on bearing.
15.
Using special service tool 09636-20010 and 09228-22020, press inner race with axle hub onto axle shaft.
16.
Torque nut to 90 ft. lbs. (1250 kg-cm) and stake.
17.
Place new O-ring on axle carrier.
18.
Install axle hub and rear brake assembly with 4 bolts. Torque bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (820 kg-cm).
19.
On models w/drum brakes, connect brake line to wheel cylinder, then install brake drum and bleed brakes.
20.
On models w/disc brakes, install rotor and caliper assembly.
