Control Arm: Service and Repair
Upper Suspension Arm

1.

Remove torsion bar.

2.

Remove right front seat and console box.

3.

Disconnect transmission and transfer case cables from levers, then remove the transmission and transfer case levers with retainers.

4.

Disconnect parking brake cable from lever, then remove the parking brake lever assembly.

5.

Disconnect parking brake cable from intermediate shaft and transmission shift cable from transmission. Remove both cables.

6.

Remove seat floor panel, then the fan shroud.

7.

Remove radiator mounting bolts and nuts. Do not drain coolant from radiator.

8.

Loosen upper shock absorber mounting nut, then remove nut, cushions and retainers. Disconnect shock absorber from frame.

9.

Remove upper ball joint cotter pin and nut, then using suitable puller, separate steering knuckle from upper ball joint.

10.

Remove upper suspension arm shaft attaching bolts, then the shaft and arm assembly.

11.

If necessary, remove torque arm attaching bolts, then the torque arm.

12.

Reverse procedure to install. Tighten arm attaching bolts, upper suspension arm and shaft assembly attaching bolts and upper ball joint attaching
nut to specifications.
