Toothed Belt Tension, Check
Note: This operation
only refers to run-in toothed belts. For installation of a new
toothed belt – see operation "Toothed Belt Tension,
Adjust".
Testing is performed with the engine cold – at room
temperature.
 Remove
Disconnect ground cable from battery.
Remove air cleaner housing – see illustration "Air Ducts X
14 XE, Z 14 XE, X 16 XEL,Z 16 XE, Z 16 YNG" or "Air Ducts X 18 XE1,
Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL".
Remove upper part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Upper Part, Remove and Install".
Remove ribbed V-belts – see operation "Ribbed V-belts,
Remove and Install".
Remove right front wheel.
Remove lower right engine splash guard.
Remove ribbed V-belt tensioner – see operation "Ribbed
V-belt Tensioner, Remove and Install".
Remove lower part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Lower Part, Remove and Install".
Install
Screw fastening bolt for toothed belt drive gear in
crankshaft.
 Adjust

Turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation to "1st Cylinder
TDC" (III).
The marks on the camshaft pulleys must be opposite one
another.
Turn crankshaft slowly and smoothly.
Fix camshaft pulleys in position with KM-852 (II).

Inspect
|
For X 14 XE, Z 14 XE, X 16 XEL, Z 16 XE, Z 16 YNG:
Check installation position of coolant pump – adjust if
necessary. Mark (2) on the coolant pump must align with mark (1) on
cylinder block.
Possibility I: The toothed belt tension is correctly adjusted
when the pointer (4) of the toothed belt tension roller is approx.
4 mm to the left of the notch (3).
Possibility II: The toothed belt tension is correctly adjusted
if pointer (6) for toothed belt tension roller aligns with mark
"USED" (5).
If the toothed belt tension is not correctly adjusted –
see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust".

Remove
Remove fastening bolt out of toothed belt drive gear and remove
Locking Tool KM-852.
Install
Install lower part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Lower Part, Remove and Install".
Install ribbed V-belt tensioner – see operation "Ribbed
V-belt Tensioner, Remove and Install".
Install lower right engine splash guard. Attach front right
wheel – tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.
Install ribbed V-belt – see operation "Ribbed V-belt,
Remove and Install".
Install upper part of toothed belt cover – see operation
"Toothed Belt Cover – Upper Part, Remove and Install".
Install air cleaner housing – see illustration "Air Ducts
X 14 XE, Z 14 XE, X 16 XEL, Z 16 XE, Z 16 YNG" or "Air Ducts X 18
XE1, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL".
Connect ground cable to battery.
