Crankshaft Pulse Pick-up, X 17 DTL  

The crankshaft pulse pick-up (1) installed on the cylinder block is an inductive sensor, and is responsible for detecting the crankshaft rotational speed. 4 additional pins are cast on the crankshaft for this purpose.   The crankshaft pulse pick-up transmits a signal to the engine control unit which uses it to calculate the crankshaft speed.   B 34 Crankshaft pulse pick-up
