The oil temperature sensor is attached to the oil pan and sends a signal about the oil temperature to the engine control unit. At oil temperatures above 130 ° C, the engine control unit increases the idle speed to ensure that the minimum oil pressure is maintained. The oil temperature sensor has a temperature-dependent resistor that protrudes into the oil circuit and measures the temperature. The resistor has a negative temperature coefficient (NTC), i.e. the resistance sinks as the temperature increases.
