Work Order Description

System Voltage Check

Important:

Before commencing work on the restraint system:
Ignition OFF
Disconnect the ground cable from battery and mask the negative terminal.
Wait 1 minute until the capacitor in the airbag control unit has discharged.
When commencing work on pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners, it is sufficient to switch the ignition off.

  • Connect test lamp ( 21 W ) and multimeter in parallel and measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 29 (XC18)
    &
    Ground

greater than 11 V

Voltage Measurement Current Value: V
Yes: No:
T004

Check: Transition Resistance of Ground Circuit

  • Connect test lamp ( 21 W ) and multimeter in parallel and measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 16 (XC18)
    &
    Battery voltage

greater than 11 V

Voltage Measurement Current Value: V
Yes: No:
T005

Check: Transition Resistance of Voltage Supply Circuit

  • Engine running
  • Increase engine speed to 3000 rpm
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 29 (XC18)
    Input contact
    &
    Ground

Check: Transition Resistance of Voltage Supply Circuit

  • Remove test light
  • Remove electrical component from socket:
    FE34 Fuse
  • Connect test lamp ( 21 W ) and multimeter in parallel and measure voltage between the following terminals:
    FE34 Fuse
    Input contact
    &
    Ground

greater than 11 V

Yes: No:

Check: Transition Resistance of Voltage Supply Circuit

Important:

Before commencing work on the restraint system:
Ignition OFF
Disconnect the ground cable from battery and mask the negative terminal.

When commencing work on pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners, it is sufficient to switch the ignition off.

  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    A105 Column Integrated Module
  • Insert electrical component in socket:
    FE34 Fuse
  • Ignition ON
  • Connect test lamp ( 21 W ) and multimeter in parallel and measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A105 Column Integrated Module
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1 (XC46)
    &
    Ground

greater than 11 V

Cause Of Fault

E001 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E002 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    G8 Alternator
E003 Result: High Transition Resistance
  • High transition resistance between:
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 16 (XC18)
    &
    Ground
E004 Result: High Transition Resistance
  • High transition resistance between:
    A105 Column Integrated Module
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2 (XC46)
    &
    A63 Control Unit - Airbag
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 29 (XC18)

or

  • Defective component:
    A105 Column Integrated Module

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E005 Result: High Transition Resistance
  • High transition resistance between:
    X125 Underhood Electronic Module
    Socket Terminal 42 (XE2)
    &
    A105 Column Integrated Module
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1 (XC46)

or

  • Defective component:
    X125 Underhood Electronic Module

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E006 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    X125 Underhood Electronic Module
