Check engine pressure loss > < Attach and detach attaching parts

Compression, Check

Warning:   When working on the Common Rail system, wait for one minute after switching off the engine. The system reduces the pressure automatically.

Important:   When working on the fuel system, cleanliness is vital as even very small particles of dirt can lead to faults in engine operation or in the fuel system. Seal open fuel connections with suitable sealing plugs 1) . Sealing plugs must only be used once.

  Remove

1.   Remove injectors

  Inspect

2.   Clean 4x injector seat with EN-47632
•   Loosen dirt with the brush side (1)
•   Remove dirt with the sponge side (2)

3.   Attach compression plotter to cylinder 1, install EN-46783 (2) in cylinder 1
Note:   EN-46782 can only be installed in pairs in conjunction with the injector (cylinder 1 and 2 or cylinder 3 and 4)
•   Tighten nut 20 Nm
•   Attach compression plotter (3) to EN-46783
Note:   Use compression plotter with a measuring range of 10-40bar

4.   Detach cover of electronics module
5.   Remove fuel pump relay (1)
Object Number: 8125708  Size: DEFAULT


6.   Connect battery
•   Attach ground connection to ground terminal
Tighten nut
7.   Check compression of cylinder 1
Note:   Use a second person
•   Start engine for approx. 4 seconds
Note:   Engine revs at least 200 rpm
8.   Attach compression plotter to cylinder 2
•   Remove EN-46783 from cylinder 1
Unscrew nut
•   Install EN-46783 in cylinder 2
Tighten nut 20 Nm
9.   Check compression of cylinder 2
Note:   Use a second person
•   Start engine for approx. 4 seconds
Note:   Engine revs at least 200 rpm
10.   Attach compression plotter to cylinder 3
•   Remove EN-46783 from cylinder 2
Unscrew nut
•   Install EN-46783 in cylinder 3
Tighten nut 20 Nm
11.   Check compression of cylinder 3
Note:   Use a second person
•   Start engine for approx. 4 seconds
Note:   Engine revs at least 200 rpm
12.   Attach compression plotter to cylinder 4
•   Remove EN-46783 from cylinder 3
Unscrew nut
•  
•   Install EN-46783 in cylinder 4
Tighten nut 20 Nm
13.   Check compression of cylinder 4
Note:   Use a second person
•   Start engine for approx. 4 seconds
Note:   Engine revs at least 200 rpm
14.   Remove compression plotter, remove EN-46783 from cylinder 4
•   Unscrew nut
15.   Compare compression values
•   Maximum pressure difference 1.5 bar
16.   Install fuel pump relay
17.   Attach cover of electronics module
18.   Disconnect battery
•   Detach ground connection from ground terminal
Slacken nut

  Install

19.   Install injectors
