Replacing the air cleaner housing > < Check engine for leaks

Check and adjust valve play

  Remove

1.   Remove injectors
Note:   Mark assignments
2.   Turn the crankshaft until the cam pair (1) and (2) faces upwards.

3.   Check valve play with feeler gauge (1)
Note:   Valve play must be checked at room temperature when the engine is cold.
•   Test values: see Technical Data LUREF_1.gif

4.   Turn crankshaft
•   180° in direction of engine rotation
Check valve play at cam pair (6) and (2)
•   180° in direction of engine rotation
Check valve play at cam pair (5) and (3)
•   180° in direction of engine rotation
Check valve play at cam pair (4) and (1)
•   Test values: see Technical Data LUREF_1.gif

5.   Remove camshafts
6.   Remove cup tappets using KM-845

  Install

7.   Determine cup tappet size
Note:   The identification number (arrow) is on the inside of the cup tappet

Example of how to calculate the size of the cup tappet:

Required value, valve lash, intake side

0.40 mm

 

Nominal dimension of the new cup tappet

 

3.70 mm

Note:   For code allocation, see Technical Data
•   Now use a cup tappet with this dimension or one that is nearest to it

8.   Install cup tappet
Note:   Coat cup tappet with engine oil and insert
9.   Install camshafts
10.   Check valve play again with feeler gauge
11.   Install injectors
