Replace differential gear (F17+/F17+ MTA)
Note: Transmission
remains installed.
Remove
1. |
Detach axle shafts from transmission
Note: Axle shafts
remain in wheel hub.
|

2. |
Detach differential cover (1)
Note: Place collecting
pan underneath - transmission fluid will escape
|
3. |
Mark position of bearing race (2) in respect of transmission
(arrow)
|
|
|
4. |
Remove end shield cover
|
5. |
Remove end shield (2) from transmission
|
|
|
6. |
Remove bearing race with KM-447
(2)
• |
Remove retaining plate (1) from bearing race
|
|
7. |
Remove differential downwards
|
|
8. |
Remove 2x axle shaft seal ring from bearing race (3) and
transmission
• |
Remove axle shaft seal ring with KM-454-2 (1) and KM-454-4
(2)
|
|
9. |
Remove tapered roller bearing outer race from bearing race
Note: Only necessary
when replacing the bearing in the bearing race.
• |
Place tapered roller bearing outer race on KM-303 (6)
|
• |
Remove tapered roller bearing outer race with KM-304 (4) and KM-451
(5)
|
|
10. |
Remove tapered roller bearing outer race from transmission
Note: Only necessary
when replacing the bearing in the transmission.
• |
Remove tapered roller bearing outer race with KM-305 and KM-451
Note: If the
transmission has been removed, use KM-304
and KM-451 .

|
|
11. |
Detach 2x tapered roller bearing inner race (1) from
differential
Note: Only necessary
when replacing.
Do not interchange outer and inner races respectively when
re-using tapered roller bearings.

Remove tapered roller bearing inner race with KM-161-B (4), KM-161-3 (3)
and KM-161-4 (2)

Remove the ring gear from the differential housing
• |
Clamp differential housing in vice
Note: Use protective
jaws.
|
|
|
|
|
13. |
Drive ring gear (1) off differential housing with plastic
hammer
Note: Note
identification groove (arrows) running around tip of tooth.
• |
Clamp ring gear in a vice
Note: Use protective
jaws.
|
|
|
14. |
Clean all parts and transmission housing
|
15. |
Check all parts for damage
Note: Replace damaged
components.
|
Install
|
16. |
Attach ring gear (1) to differential housing
Note: Replace drive
gears only in pairs (driving and driven). Note identification
groove (arrows) running around tip of tooth.
• |
Tighten 8x new bolt evenly 70 Nm +
(30° - 45°)
Note: Insert bolts with
retaining compound
|

Attach 2x tapered roller bearing inner race (2)
• |
Push on 2x tapered roller bearing inner race with KM-453 (1) to differential housing (3)
|
|
|
|
18. |
Attach 2x tapered roller bearing outer race
• |
Install tapered roller bearing outer races (2) with KM-304 (1) and KM-451
(3) in the transmission and bearing race
|
|
19. |
Fit axle shaft seal rings
• |
Install axle shaft seal rings with KM-446 in bearing race and transmission housing
|
|
20. |
Insert differential (4) into transmission from below.
|
|
|
Important: Align bearing race
with marking previously made.
|
21. |
Install bearing race with KM-447
(2)
Important: The connection must be
oil-tight.
|
• |
Coat thread (arrow) and new O-ring (1) with multi-purpose
grease
|
|
|
22. |
Check clearance between tapered roller bearing and differential
housing
|
|
23. |
Install end shield (2)
|
24. |
Attach end shield cover (1)
|
|
25. |
Replace differential cover (1)
|
|
|
27. |
Check transmission fluid level
|
|
