Alternator and Starter Cable Replacement - 1.4L LDD, LUH and LUJ

Removal Procedure

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .





3. Unlock the retaining tab (1) on the battery fuse box cover.
4. Use a suitable screwdriver (2) to unlock the clip (4) through the window (3).






Note:  Pull the battery fuse box housing. DO NOT pull the flap.

5. Open the battery fuse box cover (1).
6. Remove the battery positive cable to starter nut (2).
7. Remove the battery positive cable to starter (3) from the battery.





8. Remove the negative cable nut (1).
9. Remove the negative cable (2).
10. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
11. Unclip the generator and starter cable from the transmission retainer clip.





12. Remove the starter and alternator positive cable nut (2).
13. Remove the starter and alternator positive cable (1).
14. Remove the starter positive cable nut (3).
15. Remove the starter positive cable (4) from starter.
16. Remove the ground cable nut (5).
17. Remove the ground cable (6).





18. Disconnect the alternator wiring harness plug (3).
19. Remove the starter and alternator wiring harness nut (1).
20. Remove the starter and alternator wiring harness (2).
21. Remove the battery positive and negative cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the battery positive and negative cable to the vehicle.





2. Connect the alternator wiring harness plug (3).
3. Remove the starter and alternator wiring harness (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Install the starter and alternator wiring harness nut (1) and tighten to  17 N·m (13 lb ft) .





5. Install the ground cable (6).
6. Install the ground cable nut (5) and tighten to  13 N·m (115 lb in) .
7. Install the starter positive cable (4) to starter.
8. Install the starter positive cable nut (3) and tighten.
9. Install the starter and alternator positive cable (1).
10. Remove the starter and generator positive cable nut (2) and tighten to  13 N·m (115 lb in) .
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Clip the generator and starter cable to the transmission retainer clip.





13. Install the negative cable (2).
14. Install the negative cable nut (1) and tighten to  9 N·m (80 lb in) .





15. Install the battery positive cable (3) to the battery.
16. Install the battery positive cable nut (2) and tighten to  12 N·m (106 lb in) .





17. Close the battery fuse box cover and lock the retaining tabs (1) and (4).
18. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
19. Close the bonnet.
