Exhaust Rear Silencer Replacement - without 1.6L LLU > < Exhaust Pipe Front Hanger Bracket Replacement

Exhaust Manifold Replacement (2.0L Diesel LBQ, LBR, LBS and LBX)

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Turbocharger Replacement .
3. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .

Warning: In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool.


Warning: Always wear protective goggles and gloves when removing exhaust parts as falling rust and sharp edges from worn exhaust components could result in serious personal injury.


4. Remove and DISCARD the 9 exhaust manifold nuts (1).
5. Remove the 9 exhaust manifold heat shield spacer (2).
6. Remove the exhaust manifold (3).
7. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket (4).

Installation Procedure

1. Inspect the exhaust manifold bolt studs for tight fit.
2. Inspect the exhaust manifold bolt stud threads. Rework if necessary.
3. Clean sealing surfaces. Remove all remains of old gasket material.

4. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket (4).
5. Install the exhaust manifold (3).
6. Install the 9 exhaust manifold heat shield spacer (2).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .


Note:  DO NOT re-use the exhaust manifold nuts.
7. Install 9 NEW exhaust manifold nuts (1).

8. Tighten the 9 exhaust manifold nuts in a sequence as shown to 20 N·m (15 lb ft) .
9. Repeat the tightening procedure to ensure a proper fastening of the exhaust manifold nuts.
10. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
11. Install the turbocharger. Refer to Turbocharger Replacement .
12. Close the hood.
