Correct procedure regarding removal of ABS assemblies/control units > < Driving with ABS

General Information before Repair Operations on ABS

After operations which affect the ABS components (e.g. accident repairs) the entire ABS must be checked. Trouble-shooting is facilitated by the use, for the first time with ABS, of self-diagnosis of different components. The trouble code can be read out in two ways:

-    Read-out of blink codes with Diagnostic Switch KM-640 (illus. C 9796) in position "K"

-    With TECH 1 (illus. C 9797), together with Program Module "OPEL 89-90 ECU"

Function Check

After operations on the brake system in which ABS parts were not affected, a simple function check is sufficient.

This means that the ABS telltale in the instrument panel should go out before 4 seconds have elapsed.

After repairs, a quick check according to Data List:F0 should be carried out.

Important:

The brake master cylinder on vehicles with Opel ABS can not be repaired, but can only be replaced as one complete component.
