Check engine for leaks (amount of CO in coolant) (Z 14 XE, Z 16 YNG) > < Check for engine leaks (CO content in coolant) (Z 12 XE, Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP)

Top up cooling system and bleed (Z 14 XE, Z 16 YNG)

Caution: Only use Anti-freeze 19 40 650 (09 194 431) and ensure a concentration of 50% water and 50% anti-freeze. The purpose of anti-freeze is not only to protect the entire cooling system against freezing but also to protect all coolant-affected parts against corrosion and lime deposit. For this reason, anti-freeze must be used even in tropical regions.

The water quality also plays an important role in addition to the mix ratio. Water of drinkable quality usually meets these requirements. The quality of purified sea water is inadequate!

Damage may also be caused to the engine if unauthorised anti-freeze agent is used.

If radiator, cylinder head or cylinder head seal have been replaced the old coolant must not be re-used.

1. Open cooling system

  • Unscrew cover of coolant compensation tank

2. Top up coolant

  • Coolant compensation tank
    • To marking KALT/COLD

3. Close cooling system

  • Close cover of coolant compensation tank

4. Allow engine to run

  • At idle speed until thermostat opens
  • Note: Cooling system bleeds automatically during the warm-up phase

5. Switch off engine

  • Allow to cool

6. Check coolant level

  • Coolant compensation tank
    • To marking KALT/COLD – top up coolant if necessary
