Coolant Pump, Replace > < Remove and install coolant pump (Z 12 XE, Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP, without air conditioning, LHD)

Remove and install oil pump (Z 10 XE, Z 10 XEP, with air conditioning, LHD)

  Remove

1.   Open bonnet
2.   Disconnect battery
Note:   On vehicles as of model year 04 with ESP - every time the battery is disconnected, the steering angle sensor loses its basic setting. It must be recalibrated.
•   Detach ground cable
3.   Drain coolant
Note:   In "ECO" model variant remove lower engine compartment cover, see operation "J481500 Removing and installing lower engine compartment cover (ECO)" in group "A"
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Open drain bolt (arrow)

4.   Remove air cleaner housing (1)
•   Disconnect 2 wiring harness plugs
Hot film mass air flow sensor (3), tank vent valve (2)
•   Unclip tank vent valve
•   Remove suction pipe (4)
Unscrew 2 nuts
Detach engine vent hose (5)
•   On Z 10 XEP: Remove air intake hose
Release clamp
•   Remove bolt (arrow)

5.   Loosen right front wheel.
6.   Raise vehicle
7.   Remove right front wheel.
•   Unscrew 4 bolts
8.   Raise vehicle
9.   Remove ribbed V-belt cover
•   Unscrew 3 bolts (1)
•   Remove clip (arrow)

10.   Attach KM-6169-2 to transmission
•   Tighten 2x bolts 95 Nm

11.   Attach KM-6169 (1)
•   Place left of KM-6169 onto front axle body (arrows, illus. I)
Guide pin must be seated in bore in front axle body
•   Attach both right holders on the front axle body (arrows, Illus. II).
Guide pin must be seated in bore in front axle body (arrow, Fig. III)
•   Tighten 2 bolts

12.   Attach connection to KM-6169
•   Adjust bracket (2) for support
•   Screw on nut (1)
13.   Adjust supports
•   Transmission side
Turn spindles until mounts (3) are positioned at guide journals free of play
•   Engine timing side
Insert journal of the support in the bore of the cylinder block without play (arrow)
Tighten nuts (1)

14.   Loosen right engine bracket
•   Loosen lower bolt (1)
15.   Lower vehicle

16.   Remove right engine bracket
•   Loosen engine damping block
Unscrew 2 bolts (1)
•   Unscrew 2x bolt (arrows)
17.   Loosen coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
•   Undo 3 bolts

18.   Remove ribbed V-belt
Note:   Mark running direction and note installation position
•   Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner in direction of arrow with KM-6131
•   Use KM-6130 (1)
19.   Remove coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
•   Unscrew 3 bolts

20.   Detach throttle body preheater hose (1)
21.   Detach heater supply hose (3) from coolant pump
22.   Disconnect coolant temperature sensor (2) wiring harness plug

23.   Detach upper coolant hose (1) from coolant pump
•   Release clamp
24.   Detach lower radiator hose (2) from coolant pump
•   Release clamp

25.   Remove coolant pump (1)
Note:   Note guide bushings during removal
•   Unscrew 9 bolts
Note:   Pay attention to different bolt lengths (arrows = short bolts)
26.   If present: Detach coolant pump cover (2)
Note:   Note different designs
•   Unscrew 2 bolts
27.   Unscrew closure bolt (3)
28.   Detach coolant connection
•   Unscrew 3 bolts
29.   Clean sealing surfaces
•   Coolant pump, coolant pump cover, coolant pipe, timing case

  Install

30.   When replacing components, note the different designs! Ensure the part and list numbers are correct.
31.   Install coolant connection
•   Replace gasket
•   Tighten 3x bolts 8 Nm
32.   Screw in closure bolt
•   Replace seal ring
•   Tighten bolt 15 Nm
33.   If present: Fit coolant pump cover
•   Replace gasket
•   Tighten 2 bolts 8 Nm
34.   Install coolant pump
Note:   Ensure that guide sleeves are correctly seated (arrows)
•   Replace gasket (1)
•   Tighten 3x bolts (2) 8 Nm

35.   Connect wiring harness plug for coolant temperature sensor
36.   Connect lower radiator hose
•   Fasten clamp
37.   Connect upper radiator hose
•   Fasten clamp
38.   Attach heater supply hose
39.   Attach preheater hose for throttle body
•   Fasten clamp
40.   Attach coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
•   Screw in 3 bolts
41.   Install ribbed V-belt
Note:   Observe running direction and installation position
•   Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner with KM-6131
•   Remove KM-6130
•   Release ribbed V-belt tensioner
42.   Fasten coolant pump ribbed V-belt pulley
•   Tighten 3 bolts 20 Nm
43.   Install right engine bracket
•   Insert lower bolt
•   Tighten 2x upper bolts 60 Nm
•   Fasten engine damping block
Tighten 2 bolts 40 Nm
44.   Raise vehicle
45.   Fasten right engine bracket
•   Tighten lower bolt 60 Nm
46.   Detach 2x connections
•   Engine timing side
•   Transmission side
47.   detach KM-6169
48.   Detach KM-6169-2
49.   Close coolant drain bolt
50.   Install ribbed V-belt cover
•   Tighten 3 bolts
•   Attach clip
51.   Lower vehicle
Note:   With "ECO" model variant - install lower engine compartment cover LUREF_1.gif
52.   Mount right front wheel.
•   Screw in 4 bolts
53.   Lower vehicle
54.   Fasten right front wheel.
•   Tighten 4 bolts 110 Nm
55.   Install air cleaner housing
•   Tighten bolt
•   Attach suction pipe
Replace seal ring
Tighten 2 nuts
•   On Z 10 XEP: Fit air intake hose
Tighten clamp 3.5 Nm
•   Attach engine vent hose
•   Clip in tank vent valve
•   Connect 2 wiring harness plugs
56.   Connect battery
57.   Top up and bleed cooling system – see operation "Cooling System, Top up and Bleed"
58.   Program volatile memory
59.   Close bonnet
