All Pistons with Con-Rod, Remove and Install > < J 452700 All Pistons with Con-rods, Remove and Install (Y 17 DT, with AC, LHD)

J 452700-012 Piston Rings, Replace (Y 17 DT)

Note! Piston with con-rod removed

1. Remove piston rings

  • Using piston ring pliers (1)
  • 3 off, spiral-type expanders

2. Clean ring grooves

  • Note! Remove oil carbon residue from piston ring groove with broken and ground-down piston ring

3. Measure piston ring gap

  • Insert new piston rings into cylinder
  • 3 off
  • Measure piston ring gap using feeler gauge

Permissible ring gap

1st compression ring (T)

0.25 – 0.35 mm

2nd compression ring (2T)

0.20 – 0.30 mm

Oil scraper ring

0.20 – 0.40 mm

4. Measure height clearance

  • Insert piston rings into piston ring groove
  • Note! Observe marks on compression rings ("T", "2T" points up)
    • 1st compression ring (T)
    • 2nd compression ring (2T)
    • Oil scraper ring
  • Measure height clearance using feeler gauge

Piston rings

Permissible vertical play

1st compression ring (T)

0.090 – 0.150 mm

2nd compression ring (2T)

0.040 – 0.150 mm

Oil scraper ring

0.025 – 0.150 mm

5. Install piston rings

  • Insert oil scraper ring spiral-type expander into piston ring groove
  • Install oil scraper ring
  • Install compression rings
  • Note! Observe marks on compression rings
    • 1st compression ring (T)
    • 2nd compression ring (2T)

6. Piston Rings, Replace

  • 3 pistons
