Engine Leaks, Check (CO-Content In Cooling System) (With Air Conditioning, LHD)

Note:   Engine warmed up (oil temperature >= 80 °C)

  Remove

1.   Open bonnet
2.   Check coolant level.
•   Correct coolant level if necessary
Warning:   Cooling system is under pressure.
3.   Unscrew cover of coolant compensation tank
•   Release pressure carefully

  Inspect

4.   Attach tester
Note:   Observe manufacturer-specific regulations.
•   To coolant compensation tank
Object Number: 2410729 Size: DEFAULT

5.   Start engine.
6.   Check engine for leaks
Note:   Actuating the rubber bellows siphons air from the coolant compensation tank. Ensure that no coolant is drawn in. If the blue fluid in the upper chamber of the tester turns yellow, the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head is leaking.

Operation: In the clear cylinder of the tester there is a blue reactive fluid that turns yellow when air is suctioned containing the smallest amount of carbon monoxide. When fresh air is suctioned, the test fluid is regenerated, i.e. turns back to blue.

The fluid can be checked by exposing it to exhaust emissions from the exhaust pipe. The test fluid should then turn yellow.
7.   Detach tester
Warning:   Cooling system is under pressure.
•   Release pressure carefully

  Install

8.   Seal off coolant compensation tank
9.   Close bonnet
