J451800 Compression, Check (Y 17 DT, without AC, RHD)

  • Conditions: Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature min. 80 °C)

1. Open bonnet

2. Raise vehicle

3. Detach wiring harness plug for fuel injection pump control unit (1)

4. Lower vehicle

5. Remove air cleaner housing (1)

  • Remove wiring harness plug for hot film mass air flow meter (3)
    • Release in direction of arrow
  • Remove air intake hose (4)
    • Loosen clamp (5)
  • Remove bolt (2)

6. Remove wiring harness plug for engine control unit

  • 3 off
    • Release 2 wiring harness plugs in direction of arrow
    • Unclip wiring harness

7. Detach air intake pipe

  • Remove 2 bolts
  • Release clamp
  • Remove vent hose (1)
    • From cylinder head cover
  • Detach air intake pipe from turbocharger
  • Detach combination plug (arrow)
  • Set air intake pipe to one side

8. Remove engine control unit

  • Remove wiring harness plug bracket
    • Remove 2 bolts (1)
  • Unscrew 2 bolts (2), 2 nuts (3)

9. Remove engine control unit bracket

  • Unscrew 2 bolts (2), nut (1)
  • Unclip wiring harness (arrows)

10. Remove wiring harness plug

  • from sheathed glow plugs
  • 4 off

11. Remove sheathed glow plugs (arrows)

  • Using MKM-6104
  • 4 off

12. Compression, Check

  • 1st cylinder
  • Carefully screw in KM-6107 (1)
  • Connect compression recorder
    • to KM-6107
    • Measurement range 1000 to 4000 kPa (10 to 40 bar)
    • Note! Observe manufacturer's instructions
  • Start engine (approx. 4 seconds)
    • Note! Minimum engine speed 200 rpm
  • Disconnect compression recorder
  • Carefully detach KM-6107

13. Compression, Check

 Object Number: 2411173 Size: DEFAULT

  • Cylinders 2 to 4

14. Compare compression values

  • Maximum permissible pressure difference between individual cylinders: 100 kPa (1 bar)

15. Tighten sheathed glow plugs (19.6 Nm / 14.5 lbf. ft.)

16. Connect wiring harness plug for sheathed glow plugs

  • 4 off

17. Install engine control unit bracket

  • Screw in bolts, nut
  • Clip in wiring harness

18. Install engine control unit

  • Tighten bolts, nuts (5.9 Nm/4.4 lbf. ft.)
  • Install wiring harness plug bracket
    • Tighten bolts

19. Install air intake pipe

  • Tighten 2 bolts
  • Tighten clamp (3.5 Nm / 2.6 lbf. ft.)
  • Install vent hose
    • Fasten clamp
  • Connect combination plug
  • Attach wiring harness

20. Attach engine control unit wiring harness plug

  • Lock wiring harness plug

21. Install air cleaner housing

  • Bolt in bolt
  • Install air intake hose.
    • Tighten clamp (3.5 Nm / 2.6 lbf. ft.)
  • Attach hot film mass air flow meter wiring harness plug

22. Raise vehicle

23. Connect wiring harness plug for fuel injection pump control unit

24. Lower vehicle

25. Close bonnet
