Cylinder Head|Description and Operation > < Remove and install exhaust gas recirculation valve (Z 12 XE, Z 12 XEP, Z 14 XEP)

Attaching parts to cylinder head, remove and install

  Remove

1.   Detach intake manifold from cylinder head
•   Unscrew 6x bolt (1)
•   Remove gasket.
•   Clean sealing surfaces

2.   Detach chain tensioner from cylinder head
•   Unscrew 2 bolts
3.   Detach oil pressure switch from cylinder head
4.   Detach exhaust gas recirculation valve from cylinder head
•   Unscrew 4 bolts
5.   Remove spark plugs using KM-194-E
6.   Check marking on bearing cap before removing the camshafts.

Exhaust camshaft marking

= 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 9

Intake camshaft marking

= 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10
7.   Remove exhaust camshaft
Note:   When releasing the camshaft bearing caps, make sure that the camshaft is evenly released from the bearing seats.
•   Undo the camshaft bearing cap in stages of 1/2 to 1 revolution
•   Unscrew 10 bolts
•   Remove the camshaft bearing cap
– Place in correct order
•   Remove exhaust camshaft
8.   Remove intake camshaft
Note:   When releasing the camshaft bearing caps, make sure that the camshaft is evenly released from the bearing seats.
•   Undo the camshaft bearing cap in stages of 1/2 to 1 revolution
•   Unscrew 10 bolts
•   Remove the camshaft bearing cap
– Place in correct order
•   Remove intake camshaft

9.   Remove roller cam follower and hydraulic valve lifter from cylinder head
•   Place the roller cam follower and hydraulic valve lifter in sequential order
– Note order

  Install

10.   Clean all removed parts
11.   Insert hydraulic valve lifter and roller cam follower in cylinder head
•   Coat the sliding surfaces of the hydraulic valve lifter and roller cam follower with clean engine oil
•   Insert in the cylinder head in the proper order
12.   Coat camshaft bearings with MoS 2 lubricating paste
13.   Install intake camshaft
•   Coat sliding surfaces with MoS2 lubricating paste
•   Fit intake camshaft
Note:   Insert camshaft so that the cams of 1st cylinder is at "ignition TDC" (cams point outward)
Important:   Observe installation position and allocations
•   Fit camshaft bearing caps
•   Install camshaft bearing cap
Note:   Tighten camshaft bearing caps in spiral pattern from inside outwards
– Tighten 10 bolts 8Nm
14.   Install exhaust camshaft
•   Coat sliding surfaces with MoS2 lubricating paste
•   Fit exhaust camshaft
Note:   Insert camshaft so that the cams of 1st cylinder is at "ignition TDC" (cams point outward)
Important:   Observe installation position and allocations
•   Fit camshaft bearing caps
•   Install camshaft bearing cap
Note:   Tighten camshaft bearing caps in spiral pattern from inside outwards
– Tighten 10 bolts 8Nm

15.   Install spark plugs in cylinder head using KM-194-E 25 Nm
16.   Attach exhaust gas recirculation valve to cylinder head
•   Use new gasket
•   Tighten 4 bolts 8 Nm
17.   Attach oil pressure switch to cylinder head 20 Nm
•   Use new seal ring
18.   Attach chain tensioner to cylinder head
•   Tighten 2 bolts 8 Nm
19.   Attach intake manifold to cylinder head
•   Fit 4 new seal rings
•   Tighten 6 bolts 10 Nm
