J740500 Coolant Temperature Sensor, Replace (Z 18 XE, with Air Conditioning, LHD)

  Remove

1.   Open bonnet
2.   Raise vehicle
3.   Drain coolant
•   Place collecting basin underneath.
•   Open drain bolt (arrow)
4.   Lower vehicle
5.   Remove engine cover.
•   Unscrew oil filler pipe cap
•   Remove 2 bolts
•   Screw on oil filler pipe cap

6.   Remove intake pipe
•   Remove bolt (arrow)
•   Pull intake pipe out of bracket

7.   Detach upper radiator hose (3) from thermostat housing
8.   Disconnect wiring harness plug for coolant temperature sensor (2)
9.   Remove thermostat housing (4)
•   Unscrew 2x bolt (arrows)
•   Detach preheater hose for throttle valve module (1) from thermostat housing
10.   Remove coolant temperature sensor

  Install

11.   Install coolant temperature sensor
•   Replace seal ring
•   Tighten coolant temperature sensor 20 Nm
12.   Clean sealing surface
•   Thermostat housing, cylinder head
13.   Install thermostat housing
•   Attach preheater hose for throttle valve module
•   Replace gasket
•   Tighten 2 bolts 20 Nm
14.   Connect coolant temperature sensor wiring harness plug
15.   Attach upper radiator hose
16.   Attach intake pipe
•   Tighten bolt
17.   Install engine cover.
•   Unscrew oil filler pipe cap
•   Insert retaining lugs
•   Tighten 2x bolts 8 Nm
•   Screw on oil filler pipe cap
18.   Raise vehicle
19.   Close coolant drain bolt
20.   Lower vehicle
21.   Top up coolant
22.   Close bonnet
