Fuel Gauge > < Front Fuel Return Line, Remove and Install

Centre Fuel Return Line, Remove and Install

Important:   Fuel vapour or escapes – observe safety measures and national legislation.

  Remove

1.   Disconnect battery
•   Release earth cable
2.   Petrol engines: Drop fuel pressure using pressure tester KM-J-34730-91 via test connection
•   Collect escaping fuel in a suitable container
•   To do this - if necessary - detach upper engine cover and reattach subsequently
3.   Disconnect centre fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or centre fuel return line (diesel engines) (1)
•   Disconnect from rear fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or rear fuel return line (diesel engines) (2) with KM-796-A at quick-release fitting
•   Seal with closure plug KM-807
4.   Disconnect centre fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or centre fuel return line (diesel engines) (1)
•   Disconnect from front fuel degassing line (petrol engines) or front fuel return line (diesel engines) (3) with KM-796-A at quick-release fitting
•   Seal with closure plug KM-807
Note:   Illustration shows "petrol engine" version.
5.   Detach bracket (arrows) from underbody
•   Unclip and remove centre fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or centre fuel return line (diesel engines) (1) from brackets

6.   The centre fuel return line (1) of diesel engine Z 13 DT, 17 DTH takes the form of a fuel cooling loop

7.   Detach centre fuel line
•   Detach at quick-release fittings with KM-796-A
•   from branch for fuel return line (petrol engines) or rear fuel tank return line (diesel engines) (2)
•   from front fuel line (3)
8.   Seal all the connections
•   with closure plugs KM-807
•   Detach bracket (arrows)
from underbody
•   Unclip centre fuel line from brackets and remove

  Install

9.   Remove all closure plugs KM-807
•   Connect centre fuel line (1) with quick-release fittings to branch for fuel return line (2) (petrol engines) or rear fuel tank return line (diesel engines) and to front fuel line (3)
Note:   Quick release fittings must engage perceptibly!
10.   Clip centre fuel line into bracket (arrows)
11.   Bolt bracket (arrows) to underbody ( 1.2 Nm )

12.   Remove all closure plugs KM-807
13.   Attach centre fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or centre fuel return line (diesel engines) (1)
•   Attach quick-release fitting to front fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or front fuel return line (diesel engines) (3)
•   Quick-release fitting must engage perceptibly
•   Attach quick-release fitting to rear fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or rear fuel return line (diesel engines) (2)
•   Quick-release fitting must engage perceptibly
Note:   Illustration shows "petrol engine" version.
14.   Attach centre fuel tank degassing line (petrol engines) or centre fuel return line (diesel engines) (1)
•   clip into bracket (arrows)
•   Attach bracket (arrows) to underbody ( 1.2 Nm )

15.   Connect battery earth cable.
16.   Program volatile memories
17.   Check fuel system for leaks
•   with the engine running
