Replace manual shift lever (F13 / F17 / F17+) > < Adjust transmission shift linkage (M20 / M32)

Remove and install shift actuator assembly (F13+/F17+)

  Remove

1.   Remove the gaiter cover (1) from the centre console
•   Unclip in 6 places
2.   Unclip the reverse gear inhibit connection (2) from the gearshift knob.
3.   Remove gearshift knob
•   Push retaining disc (3) upwards
•   Pull off knob with gearshift lever cup

4.   Detach gearshift rod from relay point
•   Undo bolt (1)

5.   Remove front exhaust pipe
•   Unscrew 3x nut
•   Separate oxygen sensor wiring harness plug
•   Release clamp
– Separate plug connection
6.   Loosen gearbox extension housing
•   Unscrew 4x bolts (1)
7.   Detach heat shield
•   Detach 4 clamps (2)
•   Remove gearbox extension housing with heat shield

  Install

8.   Insert gearbox extension housing installation aid
•   Insert guide sleeve with tab (1) into the gearbox extension housing at the front left
Note:   The tab is intended for a lining of the front installations sleeve and is broken off after being pressed in. The sleeves remain in the vehicle.
•   Insert guide sleeve without tab (2) into the gearbox extension housing at the rear left

9.   Install gearshift actuator assembly with heat shield
•   Tighten 4 bolts (1) 22 Nm
Note:   Pay attention to the tightening sequence. First, the rear left bold (guide sleeve without elongation hole), then the front left (guide sleeve with elongated hole), then the right side.
10.   Fasten the heat shield
•   Attach 4 clamps (2)

11.   Install front exhaust pipe
•   Tighten 3x nuts
•   Fasten clamp
– Connect plug connection
•   Connect oxygen sensor wiring harness plug
12.   Push the reverse gear locking piece on the gear shift lever upward and rotate 90°
13.   Insert reverse gear locking piece with locking pin into hole on left
14.   Lock gearshift lever shaft in the gearbox cover
•   Turn gearshift rod anti-clockwise
– Direction of 1st/2nd gear
•   Engage locking pin in the adjusting bore in the gearbox cover
15.   Tighten shift guide clamp
16.   Push the reverse gear locking piece on the gearshift lever upward and rotate back 90°
17.   Push the reverse gear locking piece downward
18.   Attach gearshift knob
•   Push on knob with gearshift lever cup
•   Push locking disc downward
19.   Clip the reverse gear inhibit connection to the gearshift knob
20.   Clip gaiter cover to centre console
21.   Check gear shifting
