Steering Coupling, Repl ace

Remove
Unscrew both clamp bolts on flexible coupling for steering
spindle as well as for steering pinion.
Push flexible coupling downward on steering pinion.
Position steering gear straight ahead.
Unscrew signal switch cover (4 or 5 screws).
Remove upper and lower cover halves.
Remove lock cylinder.

Prise out both housing safety plugs (top and bottom).
Turn switch housing to the left (turning lock) and remove it
to gether with the steering spindle from the steering column.
Replace steering coupling.

Install
Push new steering coupling onto steering pinion and spindle.
The steering wheel spokes are centred and slant downward.
The steering gear must be in straight ahead position.
Fasten and secure switch housing on steering column (turning
lock).
Use two new safety plugs.
Mount two-part signal switch cover.
Install lock cylinder.
Fasten flexible coupling to steering spindle flange with
clamp bolt - 25 Nm/18 lbf. ft.
Turn steering wheel once from stop to stop (alignment of
joint).
Tighten clamp bolt for steering pinion flange - 20 Nm/15
lbf. ft.
Check straight ahead driving position of steering (see
operation "Steering, Position Straight Ahead").
