Function Check – ABS
After all operations on the brake system which did not involve
ABS aggregates, a simple functional test is sufficient, i.e.
approx. 3 sec. after ignition "ON" the ABS warning lamp in the
instrument panel must extinguish.
If the ABS warning lamp in the instrument panel does not
extinguish, or if it flashes or illuminates permanently while
driving, this indicates a fault in the system. When braking hard
the vehicle remains safe from wheel lock-up until the vehicle is
almost at a standstill (approx. 5 km/h / 3 mph), thus ensuring
manoeuvrability.
The brake master cylinder on vehicles with OPEL/VAUXHALL ABS
cannot be repaired. It can only be replaced as a complete unit.
