Table 1, Diagnostic Plug (XD) and Voltage Supply, Check

 

TECH 1 refers to table 1 if the unit is correctly connected but data cannot be received from the control unit.

In this case, perform the following tests.

 

 

Carry out TECH 1 self-test as described in the TECH 1 Operating Instructions.

 

 

Important: TECH 1 must be connected to the battery with the battery connection cable for this test.

 

 

Carry out check of DLC adapter used as described in the TECH 1 Operating Instructions.

 

 

If data still cannot be received after the self-test, check the

 

 

Diagnostic plug (XD) and voltage supply of the control unit

 

 

according to table 1.

 

 

After completing the check, proceed with section 5.7.1.

     to:         ground

 

 

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from:

     K85 transmission control unit

·   Ignition ON

 

 

 

     from:    K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 37

     to:         K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 19 and 35

 

 

 

·   Disconnect TECH 1 from diagnostic plug

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from:

     M61 sun roof control unit

     K37 central locking control unit

 

 

 

 

     K85 transmission control unit

·   Connect TECH 1 to diagnostic plug XD

Notes on trouble-shooting:

Nominal value:

Cause of fault:

(If nominal value is not attained)

 

·   Ignition ON

 

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    battery +

     to:      battery -

higher than 11.5 V

·   Battery discharged

·   Corroded battery terminals

·   Poor battery ground connection

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    battery +

     to:         ground

higher than 11.5 V

·   Battery defective

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:    battery +

     to:         fuses in fuse box

 

 

·   Measure voltage:

higher than 11 V

·   Check all fuses

·   Circuit interruption or short circuit to ground

     from:    battery +

     to:         diagnostic plug XD Ter. 16

 

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 4 and 5

     to:         ground

 

 

lower than 0.1 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 4 or 5

     to:         battery +

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 4 and 5

     to:         diagnostic plug XD Ter. 16

 

 

higher than 11 V

·   Circuit interruption

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 4 or 5

     to:         ground

 

·   Carry out TECH 1 self-test according to Operating Instructions

TECH 1 OK

·   See TECH 1 Operating Instructions

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 37

     to:         ground

higher than 11 V

·   Short circuit to ground or circuit interruption

     from:    K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 37

     to:         ignition lock S1 Ter. 15

 

 

·   Measure voltage:

higher than 11 V

·   Circuit interruption

     from:    K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 19 and 35

     to:         ground

 

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 28

     to:         ground

 

 

higher than 11 V

·   Circuit interruption

     from:    K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 28

     to:         battery +

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:    K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 28

     to:         ground

 

 

·   Ignition OFF

 

 

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 3

     to:         ground

lower than 0.1 V

·   Short circuit to voltage

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 3

     to:         K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 13

 

 

·   Ignition OFF

 

 

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 3

     to:         K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 13

 

 

lower than 2 W

·   Circuit interruption

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 3

     to:         K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 13

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 3

     to:         ground

higher than

100 kW (¥)

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:    diagnostic plug XD Ter. 3

     to:         K85 transmission control unit wiring harness plug Ter. 13

 

 

·   Connect wiring harness plug:

Communication is stablished

·   K85 transmission control unit defective

·   Select transmission control unit

If nominal values are attained

·   M61 sun roof control unit defective

·   K37 central locking control unit defective
