Step 8 - Top-coating  

The top-coating forms a protective barrier against diffusion by water and oxygen, and is the final stage of the paint structure.  

The following procedure is used:  

•  Cleaning  

•  Top-coating  

•  Drying at approx. 130 ° C / 266 ° F / approx. 30 minutes  

Two different top-coating systems are used:  

•  1-coat paint, synthetic resin-based  

•  2-coat paint with metal or mineral effect base coat and clear coat  

 

The top-coating for the body exterior is sprayed on using electro-static rotation atomiser systems.   The body interior is painted manually.   Plastic parts are coated with a special polyurethane (PUR) layer in a separate process before assembly.
