Hydraulic Modulator with ABS Control Unit, Remove and Install (Vehicles with ABS-430)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove relay box with bracket from hydraulic modulator. Siphon off as much brake fluid as possible using siphon bottle. Release and disconnect wiring harness plug (2). Unscrew brake lines (1) from brake master cylinder and hydraulic modulator (detail).     Important!    Brake fluid escapes - collect and close off openings.     Remove, Disconnect    Loosen bolt (arrow) and remove hydraulic modulator with ABS control unit upwards.

  Install, Connect   

Insert hydraulic modulator with ABS control unit into bracket and screw on - screw on brake lines to hydraulic modulator and master brake cylinder. Note different thread sizes when replacing brake lines.  

  Tighten (Torque)   

Hydraulic modulator to bracket - 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.

Brake lines to hydraulic modulator and master brake cylinder - 16 Nm / 12 lbf. ft.

  Install, Connect   

Connect wiring harness plug for ABS and lock. Connect relay box with bracket to hydraulic modulator.  

  Inspect   

Bleed brake system bleed and check for leaks - see operation "Brake System, Bleed and Check for Leaks".  

The ABS-430 can be diagnosed using TECH 2. ABS control units are not flash-programmable. The relevant version codes for engine / transmission must be input using TECH 2 after an ABS control unit has been replaced.  

Check function of brakes and ABS during test drive.
