Subject:

Adjustment of parking brake

Vehicles Affected:

All Vectra-B

Condition:

The release of this Bulletin has been prompted by the recent launch of the Vectra Recall Campaign, 98-O-01.

Although these vehicles are fitted with automatic brake adjusters, you may encounter some isolated cases where an adjustment to the rear brakes is necessary.  For this reason, the Service Instructions for this procedure have been included for your convenience.

Service Instructions

Vehicles Equipped with Rear Disk Brakes

·     Loosen parking brake and remove rear wheels

·     Turn adjustment nut (1) at adjustment unit, until the brake disc is blocked.

·     Now turn the adjustment nut in the opposite direction, until the brake disc just runs freely.

·     Replace the rear wheels and torque the bolts to 110 Nm (81 lbf.ft)

·     Position the parking brake lever on the 4th notch.

·     Turn the nut on the hand brake lever (1) until both rear wheels can still just be moved by hand.

·     Now apply the parking brake a further 3 notches, to the 7th notch. The brake must be tight and the braking effect must be the same at each wheel.

·     Re-install bellows

·     Carry out short run-in drive of approx 300m, at low speed, with the parking brake slightly pulled.

Vehicles Equpped with Rear Drum Brakes

·     Raise the vehicle, unclip the bellows from the centre console and remove.

·     Loosen the handbrake, remove the rear wheels and drums.

·     The adjustment unit (arrow) must be completely screwed together, and the pinion must not lock at the end of the adjustment unit.

·     Replace the brake drums and actuate the foot brake at least 20 times, until the adjusting lever can no longer be heard jumping.
