Heater Element, Remove and Install (LHD)
Remove

Remove lower engine compartment cover.
Remove front exhaust pipe (2).
Detach add-on heater exhaust gas line (1) from add-on
heater.
Remove lower fastening nut (3) for heater element bracket.

Remove
|
Disconnect fuel feed line (1) and fuel return line (2) from fuel
filter housing cover with KM-796-A - collect any escaping fuel in a
suitable container.
Disconnect wiring harness plug (3) from fuel pre-heater.
Withdraw fuel filter housing (4) from bracket (upwards) - ensure
that no fuel escapes.
Detach fuel line heater element (5) from fuel feed line.
Remove fuel filter housing bracket (6) from bulkhead.

Remove
|
Remove return manifold - see operation "Return Manifold, Remove
and Install".
Disconnect coolant hoses (1) from heater (3) - collect escaping
coolant.
Disconnect cable connections from heater element.
Remove fastening nuts (2) and heater element complete with
heater element bracket upwards.

Note: For maintenance
operations on the add-on heater - see corresponding operations in
group "D".
Install
Attach heater element bracket with upper fastening nuts to
bulkhead.
Connect wiring harness plug and coolant hoses to heater
element.
Install return manifold - see operation "Return Manifold, Remove
and Install".
Attach fuel filter housing bracket to bulkhead - tightening
torque 25 Nm / 18.5 lbf. ft.
Connect heater element fuel line to fuel feed line.
Install
Clip fuel filter housing in bracket.
Connect wiring harness plug to fuel pre-heater.
Attach fuel feed line and fuel return line to fuel filter
housing cover.
Attach heater element bracket to bulkhead with lower fastening
nut.
Connect front exhaust pipe to return manifold with new gasket
and new fastening nuts - tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
Connect front exhaust pipe to muffler - tightening torque 12 Nm
/ 9 lbf. ft.
Attach exhaust gas heater line to heater element and front axle
body.
Install lower engine compartment cover.
Top up cooling system - see operations "Cooling System, Top up
and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks".
Caution
Bleed fuel system with KM-948 once it has been opened.
