Pressure Loss, Check Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature ≥ 80 ° C / 176 ° F).
Remove, Disconnect Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) from intake air temperature sensor and wiring harness plug (2) from hot film mass air flow meter. Detach engine vent hose (3) from cylinder head cover. Remove air intake hose from throttle body and upper part of air cleaner housing. Remove front toothed belt cover - see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install". Detach ignition cable cover from cylinder head cover, remove spark plug connector with KM-836 (4) and spark plugs with KM-194-E. |
|
Adjust At fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear, turn crankshaft slowly and smoothly in direction of engine rotation to mark. At the same time, the notches on the camshaft pulleys must align with the marks on the cylinder head cover.
Remove, Disconnect Remove oil filler aperture closure cap, coolant compensation tank cap and oil dipstick. Connect pressure loss tester to compressed air system and calibrate (observe manufacturer's instructions).
Important! The crankshaft is not permitted to rotate during the test procedure. To avoid this, engage 1st gear in vehicles with manual transmission or selector lever position "P" in vehicles with automatic transmission - apply parking brake and ensure that the wheels are in contact with the ground. |

Inspect Read off pressure loss from test equipment as percentage. Thereby note any escaping compressed air which can be heard at intake manifold, exhaust and crankcase as well as any bubbling in coolant compensation tank. Max. permissible pressure difference between individual cylinders approx. 10%. The max. pressure loss for one cylinder must not exceed 25% Corresponding pressure loss for 3rd, 4th and 2nd cylinder. Position piston of cylinder being checked in "TDC". Ignition sequence: 1-3-4-2. Determining "TDC" position, by marking one camshaft sprocket with positioning marks (1), (2), (3) and (4). Rotate crankshaft 180 ° in direction of engine rotation (corresponding to 90 ° on the camshaft pulley), until the mark on the camshaft pulley and the mark on the cylinder head cover align. Determination of "TDC" position for 4th and 2nd cylinder is carried out in the same manner.
Important! Turn crankshaft slowly and uniformly (in engine rotational direction). |

Install, Connect Install spark plugs with KM-194-E - tightening torque 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft. Connect spark plug connector and attach spark plug wire cover to cylinder head cover - tightening torque 3 Nm / 2 lbf. ft. Install front toothed belt cover - see operation "Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install". Notice: Before assembling components of the intake system (hoses, connections, etc.), they must be cleaned of any possible contamination (grease, oil, etc.). When tightening the hose clamps, be sure to observe exactly the tightening torque of 3.5 Nm / 2.6 lbf. ft.
Important! It is only ensured that the intake system is free of leaks, thus ensuring operational safety of the engine, if the hose clamps are tightened correctly to the prescribed tightening torque.
Install, Connect Attach air intake hose (3) to throttle body and upper part of air cleaner housing. Attach engine vent hose (4) to cylinder head cover. Connect wiring harness plug (2) to hot film mass air flow meter and wiring harness plug (1) to intake air temperature sensor. |
