Unbolt positive brush connection (1) from starter switch.
Unbolt nuts (2) for housing cover (3) and remove housing cover with carbon brush holder and rubber seal from starter motor.
Remove carbon brush holder from housing cover. Prise pressure spring from carbon brush holder with screwdriver.
Important!
Pay attention to insulation plates.
Disassemble
Remove insulation plates (4) and carbon brushes (5) from carbon brush holder (6).
Disassemble
Unscrew fastening bolts (1 and 2) from starter housing - remove starter housing from starter motor.
Unscrew fastening bolts (3) for starter switch and remove starter switch with spring from starter motor.
Dismantle engaging lever axle (4) and remove engaging lever with connecting bar (5) from the armature shaft.
Disassemble
Position starter motor vertically. Drive back thrust ring (1) with appropriate sleeve onto the armature shaft.
Dismantle retainer ring (2) from the armature shaft.
Remove thrust ring (3) and free-wheel mechanism (4) from the armature shaft.
Support engaging housing with appropriate length of pipe (5) and press bearing bushing out of the engaging housing with appropriate drift (6).
Important!
Soak new bearing bushing for at least 1/2 hour before installation in oil.
Assemble
Press bearing bushing (1) flush into the engaging housing with appropriate drift (2).
Secure bearing bushing after pressing in with two centre punchings to the outside of the engaging housing.
Lightly coat armature shaft and spiral spline with grease (brown) and place freewheel (3) and thrust washer (4) onto armature shaft.
Install retaining ring (5) into groove (6) on armature shaft.
Latch in friction washer with remover on retainer ring.
Assemble
Lightly coat connecting bar (3) of starter switch with grease (brown). Insert engaging lever (2) into sleeve (1) on freewheel and insert connecting bar into opening for starter switch. Fit engaging lever axle.
Position starter switch with spring on connecting bar and bolt on starter switch with starter motor.
Coat bearing bushing (4) with grease (brown). Place shift housing onto starter motor and bolt on.
Assemble
Place seal (1) on carbon brush holder (2) and position together on the retaining pins of the starter motor.
Insert positive carbon brush (3) into the carbon brush holder. Insert elbow (4) of the connecting slots into the guide of the seal. Position cable terminal on connection of the starter switch.
Insert negative carbon brush (5) into the carbon brush holder. Position cable terminal of negative carbon brush on the left retaining pins (6).
Assemble
Place insulation plates (1) onto carbon brushes. Position spring (2), as shown in illustration, and allow to engage with a forceful push onto the spirals in the carbon brush holder.
Insert insulation (3) for housing cover into the housing cover and fit this onto the starter motor.
Secure cable terminal for positive carbon brushes (4) to the starter switch.
Slide insulating sheath (5) onto the positive carbon brush connection until it engages.
