Body Control Systems: Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

With Manufacturer Scan Tool

Check DTC Memory (Function 02)

NOTE:  The VAG 1552 Mobile Scan Tool (ST) can be used instead of the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), however a print-out is not possible.

-

Connect VAG 1551 scan tool. Refer to "Selectable Functions When Using VAG 1551", under "Restraint Systems", See: Scan Tool Testing and
Procedures/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks

Initiate On Board Diagnostic (OBD). See: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview/On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Initiating Program 

-

Switch printer on with "PRINT" button (warning lamp in button lights up).

-

Press buttons -0- and -2- to select "Check DTC Memory" function 02.

Indicated on display

Rapid data transfer

Q

02 - Check DTC Memory

-

Press "PRINT" button.

-

Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Indicated on display (number of stored DTCs)

X DTC recognized

->

The stored DTCs are displayed and printed out one after the other.

Select function XX

If a DTC is recognized:

-

Repair malfunction.

-

Erase DTC Memory (function 05).

-

Check DTC memory again (function 02).

Malfunctions printed out can be repaired with the aid of the DTC table. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and
Inspection/Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures/VAG Code Charts/Comfort System (With Power Windows)  

"Read Measuring Value Block" function 08 and display group overview are additional aids.

The measuring value block is divided into 15 display group numbers: The assignment of the individual display fields can be found in the display group
overview.

If "No DTC recognized " is indicated on display, press -> button to return to "Select function XX" prompt.
