Barometric Pressure Sensor: Testing and Inspection
With Generic Scan Tool
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and Barometric Pressure (BARO) sensor, checking
Barometric Pressure (BARO) sensor is located in control module for Diesel-Direct fuel injection system. The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor
is a separate component and is located together with Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor in one housing at charge air cooler.
NOTE: When servicing terminals in the harness connector for the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor with Intake Air Temperature (IAT)
sensor, use only gold-plated terminals.

Test requirements
-
The respective fuses of Diesel-Direct fuel injection system must be OK.
-
Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 Volts.
Function test
-
Connect diagnostic tester. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic
Trouble Codes/Scan Tool Connecting/With Generic Scan Tool/Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
-
Switch ignition on.
-
Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 1: Check measured values."
-
Select the measuring value "PID 11: Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP)".
-
Compare the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) displayed on the diagnostic tester and the display on turbocharger tester with each other.
Specified value: The pressures must match
(Tolerance ± 30 mbar or 3 kPaA)
NOTE:
-
The turbocharger tester is required to obtain an independent comparison value. Turbocharger tester must be set to measuring range I (absolute
pressure). A barometer can also be used in its place.
-
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) is displayed in kPaA on the diagnostic tester, in mbar on the turbocharger tester Conversion: 1 mbar = 0.1
kPaA.
If specified value is not obtained:
-
End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
-
Check wires according to wiring diagram.
Checking wiring
-
Connect test box to control module wiring harness, connect test box for wiring test. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control
Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Scan Tool Connecting/With Generic Scan Tool/Test Box,
Connecting For Wiring Test
-
Remove right main headlight.
