Only if the safety precautions =>page 87-1 , require the air conditioner to be evacuated, should the refrigerant circuit should be opened.

The circuit must be opened when it is necessary to weld electrically near the refrigerant hoses. In the electrical welding process, invisible ultra-violet rays are given off which penetrate the refrigerant hoses and affect the refrigerant.

Repairs to the heating and air conditioner systems which are possible without having to open the refrigerant circuit, are described on the following pages.

For all other normal vehicle repairs the refrigerant circuit remains closed.
