  • ● Minimum engine oil temperature 60 °C.
  • ● Ignition switched off.

Checking centrifugal advance with TDC sender

  • ‒ → Connect up ignition tester V.A.G 1367 with clip-on trigger V.A.G 1367/8 or ignition tester V.A.G 1767.
  • ‒ Start engine.
  • ‒ Increase engine speed if necessary to idling speed.
  • ‒ Note down advance angle indicated as basic value.
  • ‒ Slowly increase engine speed.
    Start of advance is indicated by a greater number of degrees.
  • ‒ Increase engine speed to next test speed.
  • ‒ Read off advance angle on tester.
  • ‒ Calculate centrifugal advance angle:

Repeat test at other test speed

Checking centrifugal advance with stroboscopic lamp

Specifications: distributor data =>page 28-13 .

  • ● Ignition switched off.
  • ‒ Connect up rev counter and stroboscopic lamp.
  • ‒ Pull vacuum hose (s) off vacuum unit of distributor.
  • ‒ Start engine.
  • ‒ Increase engine speed if necessary to idling speed.
  • ‒ "Bring back notch" to ignition timing point mark.
  • ‒ Note down advance angle indicated as basic value.
  • ‒ Slowly increase engine speed. Start of advance is indicated by movement of notch.
  • ‒ Increase engine speed to next test speed.
    "Bring back notch" to ignition timing point mark and read off advance angle.
  • ‒ Calculate centrifugal advance angle:
