Installing cylinder head
  • ◆ Pistons not at TDC.

  • ‒ → To centre, screw guide pins from 3070 into the tapped holes 8 and 10.
  • ‒ Place cylinder head in position, insert other eight cheesehead bolts and hand-tighten.
  • ‒ Screw out guide pins with pin turner from 3070 through bolt holes and insert cheesehead bolts.

Note:

Centring with the guide pin 3070 is no longer needed in the case of engines with centring pins for cylinder head gasket in the cylinder block.

  • ‒ Tighten cylinder head in four steps in sequence indicated.

Step I

=

40 Nm

Step II

=

60 Nm

Step III

=

+ 1/4 turn (90°) further with normal spanner

Step IV

=

+ 1/4 turn (90°) further with normal spanner

Note:

  • ◆ Loosening cylinder head: reverse sequence
  • ◆ It is not necessary to retighten the cylinder head bolts after repairs.
  • ◆ Do not reuse coolant (renew).
