Checking and adjusting valve clearance > < Renewing valve guides
4 cyl. carburetor engine, mechanics (1.5, 1.6 and 1.8 litre engine)

Renewing camshaft oil seal

Removing

  • ‒ Remove upper part of toothed belt guard.
  • ‒ Set crankshaft to TDC at No.1 cylinder.
  • ‒ Slacken off and remove toothed belt.
  • ‒ Remove camshaft sprocket (counterhold with 3036).
  • ‒ Take Woodruff key out of camshaft.
  • ‒ Screw camshaft-sprocket securing bolt with washer into camshaft as far as it will go.
  • ‒ Unscrew inner part of oil seal extractor no. 2085 two turns (approx. 3 mm) out of the inner part and lock in position with knurled screw.

  • ‒ → Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extactor with oil, place it in position and - pressing firmly - screw it into the oil seal as far as possible.
  • ‒ Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against camshaft until oilseal is pulled out.
  • ‒ Clamp oil seal extractor in a vice at the flat surfaces and remove oil seal with pliers.

Installing

  • ‒ Lightly oil sealing lip and outer edge of the oil seal.
  • ‒ Locate seal with sleeve from 10-203 and press in flush with thrust sleeve 10-203.

Note:

Do not press in as far as stop as otherwise oil return bore will be covered.

  • ‒ Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) .
