To relax a clip after removal, or to tension a new clip, use vice to proceed in following manner:

Relaxing

  • ‒ Open vice to about 15 mm and place clip with wedge with stop side is between vice jaws.
  • ‒ Use a plastic hammer to carefully drive expansion wedge out of spring clip through opening between the vice jaws.

Tensioning

  • ‒ Place spring clip on vice opened to about 15 mm.
  • ‒ Use a plastic hammer to drive long expansion wedge through spring clip in vice jaws until it hits stop.

Note:

With vehicles in wich it is not possible to install spring clip with long expansion wedge (example: on vehicles with automatic gearbox, expansion wedge runs into starter), the expansion clip can converted to a short wedge in the following manner:

V26-0593
  • ‒ → Drive short wedge into clip alongside long wedge.
  • ‒ Hold spring clip over vice opening so that only short wedge is resting on a vice jaw.
  • ‒ Use a plastic hammer to carefully drive long wedge through opening between jaws and out of spring clip.
